"If the foundations be destroyed..."

I was recently reading through the Psalms when I came to the 11th one. In it David asks the question, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? I think this psalm is more pertinent in 21st century America than it was when it was written.

In this nation the Bible was once used as the primary textbook in the public schools, now it is forbidden literature except for personal use. At one time in this nation the major universities were founded as seminaries and training centers for the work of the ministry. Now they are a seedbed for every godless and demonic endeavor. At one time in this nation, and indeed from the beginning of time, the family was the basic unit of civilization, with a mother and father raising children. Now we live in the age of the "modern" family, an instituiton delineated by perverted minds and sin-sick screenwriters who hate Christ and hate Christians and everything we stand for. I wonder what Washington, Jefferson, Adam, Franklin and the rest of the framers of our constitution would say if you would have told them one day the Supreme Court would be deciding if it's ok to marry people of the same sex?

The foundations of our nation and culture have been truly eroded, and erosion makes no noise. It hasn't happened in the last 4 years, but over decades and decades of a slow and steady wearing away of all that is good. The church has been lulled to sleep, thinking that it had no part in politics, and that the fall of once established governments would never happen here. But it has happened and is happening right before our very eyes and is snowballing out of control. What can the righteous do?

David does not answer with a "what," but a "who."He says:The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD'S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men." Politics and activism is not the answer. Oh, we should make our voices heard, we should exercise our rights as citizens of the United States in voting and letting our elected leaders know how we feel. That is a precious right guaranteed to us in the constitution. But that won't bring about significant change.

The Lord is in his holy temple! We need to anchor ourselves on the fact that our God sees, hears and knows everything. He has promised that He will make everything right. His cup of wrath is being stored up and He is getting ready to pour it out. Should we be afraid? Not of Him, we are His. Should we be afraid of what is happening in our nation and our world? Not if your faith is in the one who sees, hears and knows everything, and has promised that He will reign in righteousness.

Comfort one another with these words. Jesus is coming back. Church, be ready for his return. While we're waiting Peter tells us: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear."

Are you doing that? Be sure to know what you believe and why you believe it and be ready to tell whoever asks.

 Blessings to you.
